On their 2015 debut, Pharmacy, Swedish duo Christian Karlsson and Linus Eklöw moulded effervescent house music around the sort of sharp vocal hooks that have served Karlsson well as a songwriter/producer for Madonna, Britney Spears, and Katy Perry. The Aviary delivers more snagging melodies and exquisitely measured passages of tension and release, particularly on “Pillow Fight” and “Love on Me.” However, the duo really excel when they’re mashing up styles and structure, guiding “Hunter” from twitchy, tropical pop to churning hip-hop, and cutting slinky disco grooves through the sorrowful house of “Call Me Home.”
