About Kelly Price
Singer Kelly Price worked as a background vocalist for artists like Mariah Carey before forging a successful solo career spanning secular R&B to gospel.
• The Queens native grew up in a strict religious household. She made her professional singing debut in 1992, when she backed George Michael at Madison Square Garden. That same year, she sang with Mariah Carey at the Grammys and was discovered by Sony Music CEO Tommy Mottola.
• In the mid-’90s, Price sang on tracks like Mariah Carey’s “Fantasy,” as well as Bad Boy Records hits like The Notorious B.I.G.’s “Mo’ Money Mo’ Problems” and Mase’s “Feels So Good.” She also opened for P. Diddy (then Puff Daddy) on his No Way Out Tour.
• Her debut album, 1998’s Soul of a Woman, includes the single “Friend of Mine.” A remix featuring Ronald Isley and R. Kelly reached No. 1 on the Billboard R&B chart.
• Price’s platinum-selling 2000 sophomore album, Mirror Mirror, features a cover of Shirley Murdock’s “As We Lay.” The song earned Price a Grammy nomination for Best Female R&B Vocal Performance.
• Price has gone on to record several secular and gospel albums. She also appears on multiple tracks on Kanye West’s 2016 album The Life of Pablo, including the Grammy-nominated “Ultralight Beam.”
