About the Movie
Set in contemporary Los Angeles, the film stars Golden Globe-nominee Beyoncé Knowles of Destiny’s Child (“Dreamgirls,” “Austin Powers: Goldmember”) as the seductive Carmen, no longer an employee in a cigarette factory but instead an aspiring actress. A cop named Sgt. Derek Hill, who after being ordered by his corrupt superior office Frank Miller to arrest Carmen for her involvement in a bar fight, falls hopelessly and tragically in love with her. After leading Hill down the path to perdition, Carmen deserts him for a top-40 rap star named Blaze. Also starring Mekhi Phifer (“8 Mile,” TVs “ER”), Golden Globe and Emmy Award-nominee Mos Def (TVs “Something the Lord Made,” “The Italian Job”), Casey Lee (“White Chicks,” “True Crime”) and Joy Bryant (“Bobby,” “Welcome Home, Roscoe Jenkins”).
