 About MF DOOM Like the supervillains he admires, masked rapper and underground hip-hop icon MF DOOM has forged a career marked by mystery, dark undertones, and even imposters. • The London-born, Long Island–raised artist was a member of the early-’90s rap group KMD. He performed as Zev Love X alongside his brother DJ Subroc, Rodan, and later Onyx the Birthstone Kid. The group disbanded when DJ Subroc was struck and killed by a car. • In the late ’90s, he returned to the underground scene as MF DOOM. He performed anonymously, obscuring his face with a mask. • Doom earned widespread attention with 2004’s Madvillainy, a collaboration with producer Madlib. The album is regarded as a hip-hop classic. • He collaborated with DJ Danger Mouse on The Mouse and the Mask for Cartoon Network’s “Adult Swim” programming block in 2005. The album features voice actors from several Cartoon Network series. • The elusive MC has also made joint albums with Jneiro Jarel, Bishop Nehru, and Czarface. • On numerous occasions, MF Doom has invited impersonators to perform in his place.
