Pink Floyd evolved into the perfect arena rock band and became one of the most ambitious live acts of all time. The Wall is one of the band’s most accomplished works and it’s every bit as effective live as it is in the studio. In fact, it’s arguable that this live collection from 1980-81 is an improvement over the original album. The audience adds to the concept of the alienated rocker who has a totalitarian hold on his fans. The album features several tunes not available on the original album: “What Shall We Do Now?” left off at the last minute and the instrumental “The Last Few Bricks.” Guitarist David Gilmour is in splendid form, taking the solo of “Comfortably Numb” to even greater intensity. The immediate crash of “In the Flesh?” has never been more cataclysmic. “Mother” has never sounded lonelier. “Another Brick in the Wall, Pt. 2” retains the snap of the original hit single and tunes such as “Young Lust” and “Run Like Hell” are performed in their deserved atmospheres.
