EDITORS’ NOTES
When Hey Violet emerged a decade ago as the rock band Cherri Bomb, they opened for giants like the Foo Fighters and Smashing Pumpkins. In the years since, they’ve softened their sound and parted ways with their lead singer, but kept their fiery edge. The group’s sophomore album feels like a test to see how much the L.A. outfit can do with pop. The answer: a lot. “Where Have You Been (All My Life)” channels dreamy, ‘80s synth-pop; “Like Lovers Do” has a certain vintage glamour; and “Guys My Age” is a smart, radio-ready hit about sexual dissatisfaction.
