About Silverchair
Formed in 1992, Silverchair evolved from a trio of post-grunge teens into one of the most decorated Australian rock bands of all time.
∙ The band caught their big break in 1994, winning a national demo competition with “Tomorrow,” which later became their breakout—and biggest—hit.
∙ Their multi-Platinum debut album, 1995’s Frogstomp, reached No. 9 on the Billboard 200—making Silverchair the first Australian group since INXS to crack the US Top 10.
∙ Frogstomp hit No. 1 on the Australian charts, as did all four of the band’s subsequent albums.
∙ Neon Ballroom, released in 2000, was featured in the book The 100 Best Australian Albums.
∙ Famed composer and arranger Van Dyke Parks contributed to their albums Diorama and Young Modern—the latter of which also featured the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra.
∙ Silverchair won 21 ARIA Awards—more than any other Australian act in history—and in 2008 frontman Daniel Johns became the first three-time winner of APRA’s Songwriter of the Year award.
