Describe one of your earliest musical memories in detail.
My earliest musical memory is being called out in 5th grade to sing in the choir. I had to audition in front of a room of people and I was so nervous, barely any sound came out.
I was extremely shy until 8th grade!
What are your top 3 all-time favorite albums on Apple Music, and why? Why did you choose these three albums in particular?
Carole King, Tapestry
Sheryl Crow, Sheryl Crow
Tapestry is a classic.
My mom listened to Carole King when I was growing up and I instantly fell in love with her songwriting. Sheryl Crow - again... what a writer.
She was a huge inspiration to me.
I just love great music - and great songwriting.

“Black”
This was one of those songs that basically wrote itself. It wound up being licensed in over 35 films and tv shows, including the trailer for The Walking Dead, promo for House and on the show Justified (as well as on the soundtrack).
What’s one of the most memorable moments in your career so far?
Writing and singing the theme song for The Fosters and watching my son sing along, and then a few years later, writing and singing the music for Spirit Riding Free and watching my daughter sing along.
